Edison Elementary School celebrated its eighth annual Red Ribbon Rally to promote a drug-free school and community. This event has grown so much over the years that activities have expanded over the entire month of October.
The rally was kicked-off on Oct. 1 with the theme "Too Smart to Start" in which students learned drug-abuse awareness and avoidance. During the following weeks, there was a "Shut Out Drugs" door decoration competition as well as a contest for anti-drug posters created by children with their families. Students and staff members also participated in a themed dress-up day, "Dreams for the Future," to incorporate the Kids at Hope philosophy adopted this year. Aspiring athletes, chefs, teachers, police and veterinarians filled the hallways.
The highlight of the event was when rap artist and motivational speaker, LaMar Hudson, performed his Drug-Free for Life concert during lunch and recess. Edison Eagles enjoyed moving to the beat and hearing the positive messages of being drug-free, learning to accept themselves and others for who they are and staying away from bullying. Edison expects to invite Hudson to share his inspirational message again in the near future. Many thanks to everyone who participated to make this year's Red Ribbon Rally such a success!
