Free College and Career Fair to be held Oct. 19

Colleges and other organizations from Washington, several other states, Canada and as far away as Scotland are among the more than 130 groups participating in the free College and Career Fair to be held on Monday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the University of Puget Sound Field House in the Fitness Center Tennis Pavilion.

This is the second year the Tacoma Public Schools has sponsored the fair. Schools throughout Pierce County and several in surrounding counties have been invited. Joe Raniero, Wilson High School career counselor, said, “This is a great event for the Tacoma Public Schools and the city of Tacoma. We anticipate a crowd. Last year, we had close to 2,000 people come to the fair. Our fair immediately follows the 2009 Fall National College Fair being held in Seattle Oct. 18-19. Seattle exhibitors will be able to come to Tacoma after the Seattle fair closes at noon on Oct. 19 and set up their booths at our fair!”

Representatives from colleges, the military, apprenticeship programs and volunteer organizations are among those groups that will be on hand to provide information and answer questions. Students and their parents can also attend a breakout session on apprenticeships, financial aid and the personal statement and college application process.
