High school students throughout the Greater Tacoma area can sign up now to attend the All-City Race and Pedagogy Youth Summit Saturday, Oct. 23 at Lincoln High School.
The full day of workshops and discussions surround how race influences education and how education can adapt to better educate students of all races.
The Summit will consist of interactive workshops led by educators, community members, and students. Workshops will engage with issues relating to educational equity, civic engagement, and community wellness. In addition, students will hear live entertainment and have free food during the event from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Youth Summit at Lincoln, 701 S. 37th St., precedes a broader 2010 Race and Pedagogy National Conference, "Teaching and Learning for Justice: Danger and Opportunity in Our Critical Moment" hosted at the University of Puget Sound beginning Oct. 28.
