AIA highlights Stadium High’s renovation and addition

Stadium High School’s renovation and addition is highlighted once again—this time as the October American Institute of Architects (AIA) Project of the Month, sponsored by the Daily Journal of Commerce (DJC) and the Seattle chapter of the AIA. An article, titled “AIA Project of the Month: Tacoma’s Stadium High is old, yet brand new,” and written by Clair Enlow, was posted online in the Oct. 8 edition of the Daily Journal of Commerce at www.djc.com/news.

Bassetti Architects was the design firm for Stadium High School and Krei Architecture (now part of Parametrix) was the architect of record.

Stadium High School was selected as the AIA/DJC Project of the Month on the strength of the design ideas it represents, but also on the basis of “value” in a broad sense of the word: value to the client (the school district), the larger community and all of the building users. Sustainability and apparent economies of means are also typically factors in the choice. The Stadium project was selected with assistance from landscape architect Brooks Kolb, architect Jon Mihkels, artist Ellen Sollod and architect Paul Wanzer.
