Refer to the collective bargaining agreement for an explanation of complete hiring criteria. Satisfactory evaluations for the past three years, to include the 2011/2012 school year, will be considered in making staffing decisions for summer school. An individual accepting a summer school assignment is committing to the full assignment. No planned absences, except for the specific days of the NEA convention plus reasonable travel days, when the employee has identified a substitute who has the approval of the program supervisor and is available for the entire absence, will be approved during the summer school assignment.

Requirements for teaching Elementary Science Camp:

SPECIAL EDUCATION/ESY PROGRAM (Extended School Year) July 10-Aug 2, 2012 plus two additional staff days July 9 and Aug 6, 2012; REQUIREMENTS: Hold a current special education endorsement; must have 3 years teaching experience; commit to the mentorship of 2-3 Pacific Lutheran University special education endorsement candidates; commit to a 4 hour PPA (Performance-Based Pedagogy Assessment) training prior to start of ESY and implement during the ESY program; a stipend will be provided by PLU to all mentor teachers; all ESY certificated positions will be filled through an interview process.
Role of special education ESY teacher:
- Participate in PPA training and perform assessment during ESY
- Attend staff day prior to start to set up classroom, review ESY IEP’s
- Collaborate and cooperate with PLU personnel
- Monitor ESY classroom program and special education endorsement candidates
- Supervise implementation of SDI
- Provide specific and ongoing feedback to special education endorsement candidates
- Complete ESY student summaries with endorsement candidates
- Other duties as assigned related to ESY program

Applicants must be highly qualified or endorsed in the subject area, and have prior experience teaching online with Tacoma Virtual Learning. Applicants will be paid for teaching the online class and for providing face to face support and tutoring in the classroom labs at the Summer School site.

COMPENSATION for all summer assignments: Teachers will be paid the certificated extra work rate of pay; classified staff will be paid their regular hourly wages. All summer pay is subject to deductions for FICA, Medicare, industrial insurance, retirement, and federal withholding.
