Since opening its doors for the first time in 1920, Larchmont Elementary School has had a peculiar history. It was closed down twice and re-opened once as a village of portables before finally receiving a permanent home in March 1969. In September 2002, it was given a small update courtesy of the 2001 bond issue.
The primary addition to Larchmont was the construction of the preschool and motor skills program building. It is a 13,000 square foot addition, which provides: two multi-ortho classrooms; two preschool classrooms; a fine motor skills classroom; and a gross motor skills classroom. The addition was designed to blend with the existing building construction using similar materials and construction details.
Other smaller projects included: a new parent drop-off area on the east side of the site; 40 additional parking stalls; and a fire lane providing fire department access to the north and east sides of the school.
