Challenge Program Placement Criteria

2010-2011 placement information for elementary (JAWS and SAIL) and middle school programs is provided below.  The Highly Capable Program Advisory Committee will determine placement criteria for the 2011-2012 school year based on research and best practice information. The new criteria will be determined by June 2011.

Elementary
It is recommended for the 2010-2011 school year that elementary students being referred for highly capable program services meet the following criteria in order to be considered for placement in the Highly Capable Programs, JAWS or SAIL:

Achievement
ITBS

Creativity
SOI

JAWS Enrichment Pull-Out

Composite Standard Age Score

(85th percentile or higher)

National Percentile Score

85th percentile or higher in both total reading and total math

Creativity Stanine
5 or higher
SAIL Full-Time Self-Contained*

Composite Standard Age Score

(90th percentile or higher)

National Percentile Score

90th percentile or higher in both total reading and total math

Creativity Stanine
7 or higher

 

*Students who qualify at this level have the option of placement in JAWS for grade three and moving to full-time SAIL for grades four and five or remaining in the pullout JAWS program.

 

Middle School
It is recommended that Middle School students meet the following criteria to be considered for placement in the Highly Capable Programs in 2010-2011.
