It is recommended that elementary students being referred meet the following criteria in order to be considered for Highly Capable Program assessment for 2010-2011. The new criteria for assessment will be determined by the Highly Capable Advisory Committee during the 2010-2011 school year. It will be available in June 2011 and will be implemented in 2011-2012.
Second grade students being referred for third grade Highly Capable program services including JAWS:
- Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS): Grade level benchmark or higher
- Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT): Composite score at the 85th percentile or higher
Third grade students being referred for fourth grade Highly Capable program services, including JAWS or SAIL:
- Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS): at grade level benchmark or higher
Fourth and fifth grade being referred for fifth grade JAWS and SAIL, or Middle School Highly Capable programs:
- Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) results from Spring testing - level 4 or higher in Reading and Math
- Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS): at grade level benchmark or higher
*Elementary applicants who meet the application screening criteria are eligible to be referred for Highly Capable assessment.
