Whittier Elementary School

Whittier Elementary offers students a variety of programs: Kiwannis' Terrific Kids, the Learning Assistance Program (LAP) for grades kindergarten through fourth, the Learning Resource Program (LRC), a preschool/early childhood development center, and four full-day kindergartens. Champions provides on-site child care before and after school.

 

 5th to 6th Grade Transition

 
Tacoma School District is the proud recipient of a grant provided by the RAIKES Foundation to support  students and families in the transition from 5th to 6th grade in the Mason/Truman region. The RAIKES Foundation is dedicated to the belief that regular participation in high quality programs leads to better personal, social and academic outcomes and higher self-esteem.  http://raikesfoundation.org
 
The focus of the grant for the 2011-12 school year will include:
  • Implementation of the AVID program in 5th and 6th grades  OVERVIEW OF AVID
  • Strong collaboration between teachers  in the Mason/Truman regions
  • Increased communication with families about successful transition to middle school
