DeLong Elementary School

DeLong Elementary School is a community that works together in a supportive and caring family atmosphere where high expectations, effort and individuality are encouraged, respected, and celebrated. Delong has four special programs for students needing support and encouragement beyond this regular classroom setting: Learning Resource Center, Learning Assistance Program (LAP), Therapeutic Learning Canter and English as a Second Language.

 

 5th to 6th Grade Transition

 
Tacoma School District is the proud recipient of a grant provided by the RAIKES Foundation to support  students and families in the transition from 5th to 6th grade in the Mason/Truman region. The RAIKES Foundation is dedicated to the belief that regular participation in high quality programs leads to better personal, social and academic outcomes and higher self-esteem.  http://raikesfoundation.org
 
The focus of the grant for the 2011-12 school year will include:
  • Implementation of the AVID program in 5th and 6th grades  OVERVIEW OF AVID
  • Strong collaboration between teachers  in the Mason/Truman regions
  • Increased communication with families about successful transition to middle school
